He works as Conductor/Musical Director for numerous companies at home and abroad and has conducted over 250 opera, ballet and other theatrical productions. He has played and conducted at many prestigious venues including The Royal Albert Hall, The Festival Hall, The Britten Theatre, Kensington Palace and Hampton Court. His second opera, ‘Mister Butterfly,’ which he wrote in 1994 was premiered in Hong Kong and subsequently performed at the Edinburgh Festival, and featured in a documentary shown by BBC television and BBC World Service Satellite. Between 2001-2011 he worked at the University of New Hampshire, USA, where he directed a new ‘African’ Musical, that he was commissioned to write, and also composed music for an award-winning ‘international’ children’s piece. He was also musical director and conductor for Plymouth State University's Educational Theatre Collaborative. In 2002 he fulfilled a commission from the Purcell School in association with the Vaughan-Williams Trust as part of their centenary celebrations to mark the birth of Sir William Walton and in 2007 he completed a commission to write a ballet based on the novel ‘The Trumpet Major’ by Thomas Hardy. In 2010 he also contributed music for the recently published musical version of ‘Pollyanna’ and became a BIFF (British and International Federation of Festivals) adjudicator. During the last year he has enjoyed teaching musical composition at Battle Abbey School. His highly acclaimed reduced orchestral arrangements of operatic scores by Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini and others are currently being played all over the world and are available from ‘www.smallscores.com’ In between times he has enjoyed giving his series of lecture recitals around the country at music clubs, and on cruise liners on subjects ranging from Mozart to ‘Jelly Roll’ Morton and has recently released a CD of piano music entitled ‘Around the World in 80 Minutes.’ His other interests include photography, cycling and cricket. Daisy is a dedicated solo performer. She performed her first evening solo recital with Anne Marshall at the Opus Theatre, Hastings in November 2018. She has performed as a soloist in Venice and at prestigious venues in the United Kingdom including at Birmingham Symphony Hall, Glyndebourne, St John’s Smith Square and the Duke’s Hall, London. She has also performed throughout East Sussex, at local churches, at the Hastings White Rock and Opus Theatres and Eastbourne’s Winter Garden. In 2020, Daisy, together with Oliver Poole, world premiered ‘The Birds’, composed by Polo Piatti, a piece which was anonymously commissioned and dedicated to her. Daisy has participated in masterclasses with Robert Winn, Elisabet Franch, Trevor Wye, Leslie Newman and Noemi Gyori and has attended masterclasses given by William Bennett, Denis Bouriakov, Sam Coles, Robert Manasse and Kate Hill. ORCHESTRAL EXPERIENCE Daisy’s orchestral experience stretches far and wide. She is currently principal flute of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) and has been a member since 2018. She has performed at numerous concert halls all over the United Kingdom; including at the BBC Proms, Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Warwick Arts Centre, Liverpool Philharmonic Concert Hall and Birmingham’s Symphony Hall; under the batons of Sir Mark Elder, Jaime Martin, Kwame Ryan, Kirill Karabitz, Mark Wigglesworth, Carlos Miguel Prieto and Sir George Benjamin. In 2019, Daisy performed with NYO as part of Young Euro Classic at the Konzerthaus, Berlin. Daisy is currently principal flute of the Hastings Sinfonia and has played guest principal for the Sussex Concert Orchestra. Daisy has played principal flute in JRAM’s Classical Orchestra, Sinfonia and Symphony Orchestra and for Opera South East as well as playing for Battle Light Opera. In 2014, Daisy played under the baton of Edward Gardner with the Barbican Young Orchestra and prior to joining NYO she played principal flute as a member of the National Children’s Orchestra (2012-2017) where she was also a Director of Music Scholar and a Leverhulme Scholar. In 2018, Daisy was appointed principal flute for the International Composers Festival Orchestra, conducted by John Andrews and is thrilled to have been appointed Principal Flute as well as Junior Ambassador for the 2022 Festival. COMPOSING An avid composer, Daisy won the Royal Opera House London Fanfare competition in 2016 with her composition ‘Funfair in Sea’ which was recorded by the Royal Opera House Orchestra, conducted by Antonio Pappano and played throughout the 2016/2017 season in Covent Garden, letting people know when to take their seats. OUTREACH Daisy is keen to raise awareness of Classical music, and the importance of team-work and a sense of community through music-making. Daisy has been involved in various outreach projects with JRAM, NYO Inspire and the Hastings Sinfonia. For NYO Inspire, Daisy has created and led workshops for other young musicians and has organised fundraising concerts. In 2020, Daisy was awarded the Fitter Stronger ‘Recharge Award’ for Music outreach. He completed his BMus in Vocal Performance at the Chichester Conservatoire with a first-class honours degree under the tuition and guidance of Ian Kennedy but also spent a year in the London College of Music with Anthony Roden. John was awarded the silver medal in the Ealing Music Festival. Growing up in Sussex and Kent, John took part in the Hastings Music Festival as a boy treble and won first prize with honours in the unaccompanied folk song competition. He then went on to perform for another nine years with singing tuition from Louise Winter placing second and third in various classes and competitions in Hastings, Sevenoaks, Eastbourne as well as Woodbridge in Suffolk. John continued having lessons with Louise up until the pandemic. John's most recent engagements included chorus in Beatrice di Tenda with London Bel Canto festival; tenor roles in Barefoot Opera’s Carmen; and chorus in Le Cid and La Boheme with Dorset Opera Festival. He gained a place at the Royal Academy of Music, winning numerous prizes and scholarships. Andy was appointed sub-leader of the BBC Radio Orchestra, then Leader of the London City Ballet Orchestra. In the '90s, he spent much time on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he met his wife, Rachel, also a professional violinist. His first unsolicited manuscript went to the BBC and received a polite rejection! His playing of the organ during his teens gave him an abiding love for well-sung choral music and an understanding of the layout of large-scale music. His musical career was mainly based in teaching piano, performing concerts and also providing music in hotels and on ships. Theatre work as MD gave him the great enjoyment of working with a group and began with one of the first amateur productions of Oliver! in 1966. More recently he worked on shows at Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells and also provided scores for As You Like It and The Glass Menagerie. Family commitments made a career break imperative from 1997 and after moving to Bexhill in 2005 he opened his home, Arden House, as a B&B. Since then he has been able to re-work many of his earlier scores and has now created a concert version of his As You Like It music which will feature in the inaugural concert of the Sinfonietta. He is presently heavily involved in the foundation of the Bexhill Sinfonietta and also working on a concert version of his Glass Menagerie score.
